Rhino 8 is the latest version of the powerful, versatile 3D modeling software, Rhinoceros 3D (or simply Rhino). It is used across various industries, including architecture, industrial design, engineering, and jewelry design, for creating precise 3D models using the non-uniform rational basis slope (NURBS) mathematical model.
Rhino 8 introduces several new tools and enhancements designed to streamline modeling workflows and boost performance, particularly for Mac users.
- ShrinkWrap: A new command that creates a watertight mesh around any combination of open or closed meshes, NURBS geometry, SubD, and point clouds, making models ideal for 3D printing and analysis.
- PushPull Workflows: Simplified modeling with direct editing, allowing users to grab a face and push or pull it to extrude or extend volumes from existing surfaces.
- SubD Creases: This feature enables the creation of sharp or fillet-like edges on subdivision surfaces without adding unnecessary complexity to the control net.
- Performance Boost for Mac: Rhino for Mac is significantly faster, running natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs and utilizing Apple’s Metal display technology.
- Better Drafting Tools: Enhancements to clipping and sectioning, new linetypes, and the addition of a “Reflected Ceiling Plan” viewport mode improve the 2D drawing and illustration capabilities.
- Improved Rendering: The Cycles render engine has been updated for faster, GPU-accelerated raytracing, and UV mapping tools have been enhanced.
- Customizable User Interface: The interface is more customizable, including support for Dark Mode on both Windows and Mac.
- Grasshopper Data Types: The algorithmic modeling plugin Grasshopper has new data types, allowing for expanded workflows such as baking geometry with custom attributes and controlling blocks.
- Development Platform: Rhino 8 includes a new code editor and support for CPython and .NET 7, along with major improvements to its free SDKs for developers
